These are the people in charge of things, whom you may want to be aware of. Don't worry, none of us bite.
Other useful people to know are:
Ankh is a community, and every community needs a few basic principles on which to operate. An explanation of the Ankh ground rules are accessible via the simple expedient of typing "rules", sans quotation marks, anywhere on the MUSH. In shortest possible form, they are:
The wizards encourage you to read the expanded form at your earliest opportunity. Changes to these rules will be considered, and duly discussed with you, the players, before implementation.
AnkhMUSH is a place for roleplay related to Les Miserables, whether directly or more tenuously. The directly related roleplay should take place in the designated Paris area. The less directly related roleplay should take place in the Modern area, and should involve characters who are variants of characters from Les Miserables.
Kindly refrain from harassing your fellow players, even if you think they deserve it. Talk to the wizards (Quiara, Manon) if you are upset with someone.
Do not roleplay in the out-of-character lounge. Take it to an in-character location (Paris or Modernity). Feel free to continue any conversation you were having with people in the lounge via the Public channel, whether or not they accompany you on your sojourn into creative imagination. Likewise, when you finish a roleplay, you may wish to go to the OOC Lounge. It is accessible from any location on the MUSH. Simply type "OOC".
The local convention for out-of-character chatter in a room where people are roleplaying is to offset one's statements with an asterisk.
e.g. Quiara types:
:* Oh, boy! The Red Sox won the World Series!
Everyone sees:
Quiara * Oh, boy! The Red Sox won the World Series!
Please do not roleplay anything in a public area that would not actually occur in public. For example, a physically passionate tryst should take place in an apartment, not on a park bench.
If you have any questions, please contact one of the aforementioned wizards. Enjoy your stay.
IC is an abbreviation for In Character. OOC is an abbreviation for Out Of Character. IC refers to the fictional world of roleplay. OOC refers to real life. This bears a bit of reinforcing.
Briefly, the cardinal rule of roleplaying is not to get these two confused.
It is courteous, for example, not to give your character the benefit of information that is given to you, the player, by another player, unless there is a logical IC reason. It is courteous for you to allow your character to take the consequences of his behavior: i.e., if you have him fall off a thousand foot cliff, it is unseemly to protest that you don't want him to die of it. (This is abbreviated by geeks to ICA=ICC, or In-Character Actions Have In Character Consequences.) Above all, it is courteous for you, as a player, not to take events that befall your character personally.
Remember that your character is not you, and that you are not your character, and you should be fine.
Subreality is what happens when IC and OOC mingle (see news IC-OOC). When characters talk to their typists, or to other typists, or to characters from a different universe, or to alternate versions of themselves -- you've got subreality. Credit for this term belongs to Kielle and her cohorts; see Subreality Central for details.
Subreality is kept in the basement, and can be reached by going down from the OOC Lounge. The wizards ask that you take any protracted subreal discussions (or debates, arguments, brawls, frolics, or orgies) there. The OOC Lounge is generally off-limits to figments, for the sake of everyone's sanity. ;)
It is permissible to create more than one character login if you customarily have two roleplay scenes going on in two different spots on the MUSH. Otherwise, for the sake of simplicity and tidiness, you can use the Emit Box to simulate multiple characters in addition to your main character or typistly persona.
TinySex is shorthand for roleplaying sexual intercourse. Some of our players are underage. For God's sake if you're going to do it, ask beforehand, just in case that charming grisette's typist is only fourteen. We don't foresee this being a particular problem, but, well. Parents do happen.
